Converse, the Massachusetts company behind the Chuck Taylor All Star, the One Star and the Jack Purcell — canvas shoes that left the basketball court and never went back.

Converse was founded in Malden, Massachusetts in 1908 and released the All Star basketball shoe in 1917. Six years later the player Chuck Taylor put his name on the ankle patch, and the shoe has carried it ever since. The One Star followed in 1974 and the Jack Purcell, named after the badminton champion, joined the range after Converse acquired it.
